Last night, Brian and I had the opportunity to lead worship at a local homeless shelter. Butch Davis of One Accord Ministries leads worship at Serve City twice a week and we were blessed to be a part of that. We arrived early and had the chance to sit and talk with many of the folks who were at the shelter. We were immediately welcomed and shared some great conversations. The time of worship and teaching was amazing. Butch has an authentic way of sharing personal experiences and wisdom gained from his own life that is completely engaging. He taught from the word and – well, let’s just say he brought it. And all that were in the room were hungry for the word. It was like being at a good old fashioned “Come to Jesus meeting.” This was our first time to meet Butch and to hear him teach. His personality and love for the Lord is infectious. At the end of the service we were able to pray with people and hear more of their stories. It was an overwhelming evening. We walked away inspired and uplifted…and very eager to go back and serve again. God has his way of humbling us and encouraging us in our own ministry by placing us where he knows we should be. I am so thankful for his guidance in my life. While some people may not consider worshipping in a homeless shelter “normal” Friday night plans – I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else in the world. I feel truly blessed.
